I get to meet the most inspiring individuals in my job – the clients and people I work with

Counsellor, Lisa Ratcliffe, loves being back in Teamwork’s supportive working environment having just returned from maternity leave.

“Teamwork is really quite unique – it’s the most caring and staff-focused organisation I have ever worked for,” says Lisa who has been a counsellor at the Corby centre since 2014.

“I came into counselling in my late 20s, as I wanted to pursue a career where I was helping people. I considered nursing but it was counselling that really appealed. I took my training one step at a time and kept surprising myself at every level. That’s when I realised it was something I was good at and enjoyed.”

Lisa had previously worked in admin and distribution where she says it was very pressured and target-driven. “When I started at Teamwork as a volunteer counsellor during my placement, I was taken aback by the wonderful working environment. They supported me through my training, so when the position to set up the counselling service in Corby came up, I jumped at the chance.”

Lisa job-shares her role, working two and a half days a week, counselling clients through mental ill health.

“I love my counselling role, helping people overcome and resolve their issues. I see all kinds of clients – some are referred by their GPs or have heard about us through word of mouth. Guiding them through their most fragile moments is a real privilege and incredibly rewarding. I get to meet the most inspiring individuals in my job – the clients and people I work with.”
