Teamwork Trust’s new Open Sessions will help adults with mental health needs, learning and physical disabilities, and their parents and carers, understand the support, opportunities and funding available.

People can register to attend for free, and the first series of morning events are from 10.15am-12pm:

During the approximate two-hour sessions, those who have, or who are supporting adults with mental illness and disabilities, can experience Teamwork’s safe, friendly, supportive environment, see the charity’s award-winning ‘factory floor’ and find out about the various activities, classes and funding options. There will also be a chance to meet and talk with other families too.

John Bruce, strategic director said:

“We’re excited about showing people the kinds of experiences and support we offer at Teamwork Trust for adults with additional needs, and the people that care for them."

John added: "Our service-users will tell those who come how they’ve made new friends here, grown in confidence and independence, been able to access education and employment opportunities, and taken part in lots of on and off-site activities and classes. We’ll also help parents and carers understand the funding puzzle, and explain how we can support them through the application process in a really informal and relaxed setting.”

A typical Open Session…

10.15am: a welcome into our centre

10.30am: meet a Teamwork Trust service-user and staff who will talk about our services

10.45am: parents and carers split from their adults

  • Funding options – we explain what is available to parents and carers, and how we can support people through the application process.
  • Meet the service users – adults have a chance to spend time on the factory floor and in one of our education classes, gaining an insight into what Teamwork Trust is like.

11.45am: all groups come back together for the centre manager to close.

12pm: enjoy a light lunch with the team and service-users.
