23rd July 2019: Groups of young teens will be embracing new challenges and learning new skills as they volunteer at Teamwork Trust over the summer.

Thirty-six students will work at the Northamptonshire charity’s three centres as part of the National Citizen Service’s (NCS) summer programme during two-week placements, where they will be guided by their NCS team mentor to come up with their own activities and projects.

Twelve students have already completed their first two-weeks at the Kettering centre where they ran various fundraisers and even devised a video project to capture the best bits – watch it HERE.

This sixth year we have put ourselves forward to ‘host’ NCS groups and we love having the students with us over the summer months – it is something we look forward to every year.

Victoria Bell, Head of Development, added: As a charity which promotes chances, choices and opportunities for all, it’s the perfect project for us to support. We give some guidance to the young people but we are very aware to let them come up with their own ideas, and the first cohort have not let us down with their creativity.”

The group raised over £300 for Teamwork through the activities they designed - a sponsored walk, a 25km run (which they took in turns to complete), a quiz for the members and a sports day.

16-year-old aspiring teacher Francesca from Brooke Weston Academy in Corby said: “This was all about gaining confidence, meeting new people and developing new skills and I think I have achieved all of those things.”

“I am so pleased we were given Teamwork Trust,” said Jhomery, also 16, from Prince William School in Oundle. “It has been a totally different experience to school – here we have been able to come up with our own ideas and use different skills. I want to be a paediatrician when I am older so learning how to work with people with different needs has been a real eye-opener.”

Adam, also from Prince William School wants to be a cinematographer. He added: “It was my idea to capture the whole placement on film and create a video of our experiences. We recorded backing music too. It has really pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I am so pleased I signed up and that I was placed at Teamwork.”
