Harry was only 19 when he died in March 2018 after a four-year battle with cancer. Had he lived, Harry would have left Isebrook School in Kettering, Northamptonshire, and joined Teamwork Trust. This unique charity would have given Harry a community with purpose, structure, new friendships, work experience and a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Something rarely available for people with additional needs. Which is why Harry’s mum, dad and sister have set up Harry’s Fund. And why Harry’s dad, David, is taking on a huge hike across Wales. Harry’s Hike will see David trek 177-miles along historic Offa’s Dyke footpath. The terrain will take David over many mountains which, when added together, are greater than the height of Mount Everest. What’s more, David is attempting this in half the recommended time. But he won’t be hiking alone - he will be accompanied by Harry’s beloved Airedale Terrier dog, Nelly. David said: We miss Harry every day and want to make sure he is not forgotten. Every time we step inside Teamwork Trust we feel a piece of him is there. And we want his peers to have that opportunity to be in a place we know he would have loved. Anyone undertaking this hike would normally be advised to complete it in two weeks. However, David wants to do something extraordinary in memory of his son. So he has set himself a challenge to complete the walk in only six days. Chris Jones, ex-special forces officer and police dog handler said this would challenge the fittest of people. To hike Offa’s Dyke in six days is as tough as climbing Everest. I’m not sure David knows what he is letting himself in for, but I hope he reaches his target in memory of Harry.
