Our service users, staff and supporters are being treated to a programme of speakers this year – with local people and groups popping in to talk about and share their learnings, opinions and experiences.

The latest speaker to visit Teamwork Trust was Cllr Hakewill, an independent councillor from North Northamptonshire Council, who represents the people of Rothwell and Mawsley.

Cllr Hakewill met and chatted to our service users, talking about politics, voting and issues affecting the people and communities of Northamptonshire.

Victoria Bell, Head of Programmes at Teamwork Trust, said: “A huge thank you to Cllr Hakewill. It’s very important that our service users understand local politics and how it affects them. Cllr Hakewill talked about what is happening in North Northants, and also shared his own path into politics. His independent approach allowed our service users – who proudly told him they were registered and excited to vote - to ask a whole range of questions about politics, about North Northants Council and even national government.”

To date, our 2022 programme of speakers and visitors has included the local fire brigade.

Victoria added: “We are now appealing for other local people, groups and businesses to visit us - to meet and talk to our service users about the community we live in, their jobs or volunteering or even an unusual hobby.”

Service users Ashley: “Jim was a really nice chap and did a great talk. I liked it when he spoke about Kettering and the school he went to. We hope to see him again soon.”

Another service user said: "Jim was interesting, he told us lots about why we need good councillors to support and represent us. He knew so much about what we do and how the new council is set up to help everyone. He also told us lots of history about Kettering."

Recent talks to our service users have been made by representatives from RSPCA, mental health charity Mind, Northants Fire and Rescue Service, and Corby Pole Fair. Made With Many. a community-led arts programme in Northamptonshire, is due to visit Teamwork Trust soon.
