Members of Northamptonshire charity Teamwork Trust will be on the small screen this month – featured in Sky TV’s new documentary series Landmark.

Landmark, which is being hosted by DJ Gemma Cairney, features a trio of artists in each episode and on Monday, 20^th September this line-up will include artist Jason Wilsher-Mills and members of Teamwork Trust’s Corby centre.

Vickie Bell, Head of Health and Social Care at Teamwork Trust, said: “Jason is a constant inspiration to all of us and it was wonderful to welcome the TV cameras to Corby and to witness Jason and our members bring works of art to life.

“Jason works passionately and tirelessly with disabled communities around the UK and his visits are a real highlight for our members. We’ll all be tuning into the TV show and next month we will be visiting Jason at his latest exhibition at the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre.”

Teamwork Trust is a Northamptonshire charity and social enterprise which works with and supports autistic adults, people with learning disabilities and individuals with mental health needs. At each of its three centres there is a programme of living and learning projects and activities as well as wellbeing and counselling programmes.

Teamwork Trust member Steven Czeremszynsky said: “Thank you Jason. I really loved working on the iPads with Jason and was so proud to learn the new skills. I enjoyed every moment of it. It was one of the best things I ever did.”

Campbell McBride, another member of the charity, said: “I enjoyed seeing the sculptures that were made with our art. I was glad to be a part of it and look forward to seeing Jason again.”

Jason’s background is inspiring and explains his commitment to working with disabled people. At the age of 11 he became very ill and this caused him to be paralysed from the neck down for 5 years. Throughout this time of complete paralysis Jason attended a special school and painted with a specially designed ‘mouthpiece’. He was 16 when he regained his mobility and in 2011, he bought an iPad – which he continues to use today to make art.

Jason explained: “I am a disabled artist who makes work about other disabled people. I am not from Corby, so did not know anything about the town, but through working with these incredible people, I fell in love with the place and I can honestly say that it changed my life and the way I thought about making art.”

Jason first started working in Corby in 2016, when he was commissioned by community-led arts programme Made with Many for a year-long artist residency at Oakley Grange on Patrick Road, during which he also connected with Teamwork Trust.

Director of Made with Many, added: “It’s been an absolute privilege to work with Jason through the process of filming Landmark. His innovative digital work is a brilliant celebration of the disabled community in Corby and we’re thrilled to be able to share that with the world.”
