Businesses in Corby have rallied to make a local charity’s New Year wish come true – joining forces to treat Teamwork Trust to a newly expanded canteen.

Members at the charity’s Corby centre wanted a bigger, better space to eat, socialise and gather, so the My Community team at RS Components’ helped to turn this dream into a reality.

Within a week building work had begun, walls were knocked down increasing the square footage of the canteen and new laminate flooring was fitted.

Helen Barber, Centre Manager at Teamwork’s Corby centre, said: “Members have been asking us to improve the canteen for a long time, so to make this happen as we begin a new year is fantastic. Previously the space was far too small and restrictive. We have members in wheelchairs so it is essential to provide sufficient room.  A huge thank you to everyone who helped.”

Corby member Robson said: “It’s nice to have more space so we are not cramped and have a choice of where to sit. It’s great for wheelchair users to have space too.”

Teamwork Trust, which also has centres in Kettering and Wellingborough, is a charity which supports adults with mental health needs and physical and learning disabilities.

Kathryn Fantom, Chair of the My Community Team at Corby’s RS Components, said: “Now that the main work has been done we have a team on standby to give the area a new makeover by painting and decorating.  As a business we are passionate about supporting Teamwork Trust and have had great fun planning this project.

“It doesn’t matter how you feel when you step through the doors of Teamwork, it’s impossible not to leave with a smile – and to put smiles on the members’ faces is a privilege.”
